The academic curriculum maintains high standards for excellence, both in expecting solid mastery of basic skills and in challenging students to broaden their horizons. The school day is structured so as to maximize students' time and attention to learning tasks. Small classes, with a target size of 18 students per class, provide a warm, personalized setting in which each teacher knows the children well, shows love and caring for them as individuals, and encourages their best efforts.
We try to give frequent honest feedback to students and parents, while emphasizing strengths and successes. We believe children grow up in a more whole and secure fashion when school and parents work closely together. We encourage regular open communication between home and school and welcome parent contributions of time and talent. Regular homework is assigned, beginning with a small amount in first grade and gradually increasing in amount each year. The extra time spent on home assignments reinforces skills and extends learning.
