Foreign Languages

Friends Meeting School is a diverse community and one hears any number of languages in our hallways and in our students' homes.

Communication is key to understanding and our students are exposed to many languages and cultures in their search for understanding.

In the past, FMS has offered classes in Spanish, Chinese, and sign language. Our curriculum focuses on Spanish, but other languages are offered to meet our students' interests. The school’s commitment to teaching Spanish is based upon the aspiration that students will utilize the language to reach out to the large population of Spanish speakers in this country. The curriculum is based on national standards for grades K-12 that correspond to the organizing principle of five interconnected Cs: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities.

FMS is committed to providing foreign language exposure to all its students at all grade levels.
