Technology

The use of technology is key to our educational mission. With our combined Multiple Intelligences and Differentiated Learning approach to education, the application of appropriate technology is critical to our students acheiving their full potential.
It is a given that today's schools embrace the use of technology but sometimes the implemenation of that technology lacks focus. At FMS we strive to use applied technology to meet the needs of all of our students, to help them become good learners.
For example, some students have Spatial/Visual Intelligence (see Educational Philosophy for more details). These students have a strong aptitude for perceiving the visual, use imagery in their thinking, and need visual clues to reinforce learning. Not only does the use of technology make it easier for them to create images and learn, but it also helps them more fully develop their thoughts and express themselves. In math they can manipulate objects on an electronic board. Mind mapping helps them develop and organize projects and can be used in language arts to develop story lines. It helps them visually make connections that might not be understood in a lecture based class.
The strategic application of technology at Friends Meeting School allows us to effectively teach to a broad range of students.
