A substantial body of research demonstrates student satisfaction and engagement in learning increase with participation in the arts. At Friends Meeting School we use an integrated currriculum, and drama and music are an integral part of the pedagogy. No matter a student's age, he or she is encouraged to publicly perform for peers, staff, and parents. Performances may include a play or musical recital, or may be the reading of a piece composed by the student.

Our largest annual production is the community play which is performed at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick, Maryland. The production often includes past and present students as well as adults from our community. Performances are open to the general public and there is a special performance for schools in the region. Before the special performances audience members are invited on stage to participate in drama games and to mingle with the cast.
