STEWARDSHIP DAY

Our annual celebration of the Testimony of Stewardship brings us outside!  Students, teachers, parents and community members team up to care for their environment!  Projects in and around our 50-acre campus put students of all ages together in service of something outside of themselves.  A willingness to dive in and get our hands dirty is a powerful habit for life!

SCIENCE FAIRS

Our Science program is set up so all ages can get the most of their experiences!  Hands-on projects and labs for all grades help build confidence and understanding, and each spring brings students the opportunity to present what they're passionate about.

In the Lower School (K-4), students explore the natural world with hands, eyes, ears and noses.  Learning the Scientific Method by trial & error, they narrow their interests through the year and present their favorite aspects of science during "Celebrate Science! Day," a judgment-free zone for experimentation and adventure.

The Middle School (5-8) and High School (9-12) classes use our outdoor spaces as often as possible for research and examination.  Each year, students participate in local and regional Science Fairs (such as the Frederick County Science and Engineering Fair), with several students taking home prizes each year!

The COMMUNITY PLAY

The Friends Meeting School Community Play is a true community endeavor! Teachers, parents, students, and community come together every Spring for this powerful presentation of our students' poise and presence.

Students of all ages collaborate on these extracurricular musicals, using talents from all areas of life to communicate a powerful lesson through a popular show. After preview performances on the Friends Meeting School stage, the entire production packs up and moves to the 1,300-seat Maryland Theatre for a final performance, where all proceeds are donated to the Frederick Community Action Agency's Food Bank program.  In 2016 alone, over $2,000 and 1,000 lbs of food were donated!

YOUNG AUTHORS' DAY

There are countless ways to communicate, and our Lower School focuses on many of them.  Writing, Drawing and Speaking are all valuable communication methods, and they come together each year during "Young Authors' Day."

Parents and Grandparents are invited to see, hear and experience each student's creations.  The pride is evident on each student's face as they express what's most important to them!

Grandparents & special friends day

Family is incredibly important at Friends Meeting School— particularly Grandparents and close family friends who show our students the power Unconditional Love.

Friends Meeting School hosts a special day before each Thanksgiving, when we invite extended family and family friends to dine together, visit classes, participate in a Community Meeting for Worship, and otherwise immerse themselves in our environment, building bonds across generations.

COMMUNITY MEETINGS

Meetings for Worship aren't just for Quakers (we don't have many) - they're for everyone, and that's the whole point.  Regardless of your background, experiences, beliefs or passions, there's a space for you in our circle!

Students meet weekly with their peers, but we also host 3-4 Community Meetings for Worship each year, allowing parents, siblings, friends, and family to experience the depth of thought that our program brings to our students.  Through silence or thoughtful discussion, the circle gives space to consider our moral and social priorities.

CLASS PLAYS & TALENT SHOWS

Our community offers its talents many times throughout the year!  The Music & Drama department coordinates seasonal variety shows, annual class plays for each homeroom, talent shows for non-school stage projects, and many more less-official venues as well.

Our students appreciate talents of all kinds, so every gift is welcomed and nurtured, and urged to be expressed!

FALL FUN DAY

Our annual October celebration is a Fun one!  Our parents work hard each fall to put together an outdoor festival for all ages, featuring games, activities, concessions, and community vendors for our entire community to enjoy.
